We aim to develop each individual into the best Irish dancer they can be. We want to see our dancers achieve their own personal goals while also nurturing strong friendships and a love of Irish dancing and culture.
Classes are offered in both team and solo styles for dancers of all levels. Our pupils are encouraged to take part in competitions and grade exams, with the support and tools in place to help them succeed.
The school also enjoys many opportunities for displays and performances. These allow the dancers a chance to learn and show off more modern, show style dance pieces and gives them valuable stage experience and confidence.
Founded in 2008, the Roberts Academy is registered with the Australian Irish Dancing Association as well as the Irish Dancing Commission (CLRG) in Dublin. From small beginnings with just a handful of pupils, the school has since grown & expanded with many of our dancers now climbing the competition ranks.
The school has been represented every year at the State & National Championships. 2010 saw the first Roberts Academy dancer take to the World Championship stage, with several dancers making the trip since. We've also seen our students compete at events such as the Great Britains, All Irelands & North American Irish Dance Championships.
We've seen some outstanding results for the school including State solo and team champions and our first National Champion in 2015. We've also had a number of International recalls and placements. In 2017 & 2018 our Senior Figure Team become back to back State Champions and finished Top 5 at Nationals both years.
Meet the Team
Although he started dancing as an adult, Andrew enjoyed a successful competitive career, winning multiple State, National, & International events including a Top 5 finish at Worlds. He then went on to tour with various shows before passing his TCRG in 2007 and ADCRG (adjudicator exam) in 2013.
He has trained multiple State Champions in both solo and teams, as well as his first National Champion in 2015. As a qualified personal trainer, he shares a strong focus on the dancer's wellness and his coaching has helped a number of pupils achieve personal best results at the elite International level.
"It is extremely rewarding to see the progress of a dancer we have trained from their first steps, to their first medal, to their first title and beyond and to see their enjoyment & personal development throughout their whole journey.
The satisfaction from seeing the friendships & confidence nurtured through the dance school you've created is second to none"
While Cathy only joined the teaching team at the Roberts Academy in 2017, she has nearly 30 years of teaching experience and was a successful dancer herself. Her coaching has helped train dancers to the top levels including National Champion soloists and teams as well as many Top 10 place-getters.
She is also an active member in Australian Irish dancing, having held committee positions on the State and National Councils and is also a Life Member of AIDA Inc.
"I enjoy watching dancers achieve personal milestones, whether that is mastering a step, a particular movement or placing well in competition. I believe that Irish Dancing builds confidence & resilience, within a safe and supportive environment.
I love the camaraderie that comes with dance classes and I can personally guarantee that friends you make in Irish Dancing are friends for life"
