What to Bring to Class

For your first class all you will need to bring is yourself! We do not expect new dancers to invest in special shoes or clothing unless they are are they want to continue with the school. All you need to wear is something comfortable that is easy to move in, such as a singlet or t-shirt and shorts.

It is also a good idea to bring trackies and a jumper to wear while warming up and leaving class, especially in colder months. Jeans or denim shorts are generally too restrictive and hot. Skirts should only be worn if shorts are worn underneath.

Beginners are welcome to dance in sneakers to start with. If you already have dance sneakers, ballet slippers or similar from other dance classes these would be great too. Once you have decided to carry on with dancing (especially if you want to compete) you will need to purchase proper Irish dancing shoes. We do have a collection of second hand shoes which can be purchased through the school, or they can be purchased new in Adelaide from specialist vendors (contact details available from Andrew). Dance shoes should always be worn with socks to avoid blisters.

Make sure you have a drink with you, preferably in a named water bottle. Irish dancing can be thirsty work! A notepad and pen can also be a great idea so you can note down new steps and other tips and info from their teacher. More advanced dancers may also like to bring their own "emergency kit" with things like band-aids, spare laces and shoe tape.
