Your Child's First Steps in Irish Dance
At the Roberts Academy, we focus on giving every child a friendly, supportive, and fun introduction to Irish dancing. Our small classes in South Plympton and Pooraka are designed for children aged 4 and up, with no previous dance experience required.
Children are guided every step of the way, learning the basics of Irish dance while building confidence, making friends, and having fun. Our approach ensures that every child feels welcome and encouraged as part of a close-knit community.
Our Approach
We believe in developing each dancer at their own pace, helping them achieve personal goals while fostering a love for Irish dance and culture.
Our classes cover a variety of styles, giving students the chance to learn new skills, build confidence, and take part in grade exams, competitions or performances if they wish.
Our focus is on creating a supportive, fun, and engaging class environment where children can make friends and feel proud of their progress, whether or note they choose to compete.
Our Story
The Roberts Academy has been teaching Irish dance in Adelaide since 2008, helping students of all ages and abilities develop skills, confidence, and a love of dance.
Over the years, our dancers have enjoyed a range of achievements. We've celebrated State solo and team champions, a National Champion, and international competition placements, reflecting the dedication and hard work of our students. We've witnessed many of our dancers achieve personal milestones, achieving their own goals in class and competition.
Beyond competitions, students have performed at a range of local events across Adelaide, enjoyed showcasing their skills, and developed lifelong friendships within the welcoming Irish dance community.
Every dancer's journey at the Roberts Academy is part of the school's story, and every achievement is celebrated.
Meet Your Teacher
Andrew Roberts, ADCRG - Principal Teacher
Andrew brings years of competitive and teaching experience to the Roberts Academy. Before coming a teacher, he competed successfully at State, National, and International levels, including a Top 5 finish at the World Championships. He became a qualified teacher in 2007 and adjudicator in 2013.
Andrew's approach emphasises personal attention, technique, and confidence-building, helping every dancer achieve their best while having fun.
"It is incredibly rewarding to see a dancer progress from their very first steps, to their first medal, and then to their first title. Watching their enjoyment and personal growth along the way is what makes teaching so fulfilling. The friendships and confidence that develop through our dance school are second to none"
Andrew is also supported in our classes by our assistant teachers, ensuring every child gets guidance, encouragement, and a positive experience from their very first class.
